I’m starting to notice the first little hints of fall here in the Bay, and it instantly makes me want to curl up with my yarn and start making all the cozy things. For me, fall is blanket season, and this new design is the perfect project to get you ready for those cooler days ahead.
Lately, I’ve been working a lot with Lion Brand’s Heartland yarn on a secret project (details coming soon 😉), and I’ve fallen in love with how beautifully it works up. So, of course, I knew it had to be the star of my next blanket.
This time, I went with the colorway Indiana Dunes—a gorgeous sandy neutral that I can’t get enough of this year. But honestly, Heartland has so many stunning shades that you’ll have no trouble finding one that fits your home. It’s one of my absolute favorite yarns: soft, slightly heathered for a rich look, and the stitch definition is unbeatable. Paired with this textured stitch, it makes for the coziest blanket you’ll want to wrap up in all season long.
Can we take a moment to talk about the squish factor of this stitch? The real magic is in the slip stitches—they not only divide the “blocks” but also draw the rows together vertically, making those reverse stockinette stitches really pop. And the best part? The simple, repetitive pattern makes this an ideal project to work on while you’re binging your favorite show. (For me, it was the new animated series Long Story Short on Netflix—so good!)
Even though this stitch is surprisingly beginner-friendly, I wanted to make sure you had a clear visual guide too. So I put together a quick video tutorial that walks you through each row of the repeat, step by step. I also show you how to finish off your throw with a neat little I-cord edge. You can check it out below!
