Say hello to fall by knitting up your own cozy Whittaker Shawl. It’s starting to cool off here in the Bay so I figured it was the perfect time to design a new shawl/scarf. I’ve only ever designed a hand full of shawls before and this is my very first knit one. Are you a lover of shawls?

I knew when I set out to design The Whittaker I wanted something simple, yet unique. I found a gorgeous triangle stitch made with just knits and purls and knew it would translate perfectly into a shawl knit from the bottom point up. The math took a bit to work out, but once I knew how big the triangles needed to be and which increases I wanted to use it just clicked! I love how the textured triangles increase with each section and they perfectly line up with the edges of the shawl.

It’s so fun to make shawls, but I don’t always know the best way to wear them. So in order to take the confusion out of styling and offer more options I included instructions for adding a simple I-cord strap that you can use to pull one end through to help hold your shawl in place. The possibilities are endless with this one.

I chose to use the new Wool-Ease Recycled yarn from Lion Brand and I instantly fell in love with it. It’s made from 20% recycled wool and 80% acrylic which gives it amazing drape with a bit of shine. While still a weight 4 like the original wool-ease, it’s seems a tad bit lighter and is perfect for shawls and other accessories or garments. I know I’ll definitely be using it again.
