Today is the day my friends…we are dipping our feet into the wonderful world of Tunisian Crochet!
Ever since one of my followers over on Instagram suggested I make a Tunisian crochet version of my Quade Throw I haven’t been able to get the idea out of my head. I had tried Tunisian crochet before, but hadn’t written any patterns so this was all new territory for me.
Luckily after a quick google search for stitches, I decided to give it a go and I’m so glad I did. It’s crazy how much these stitches look like knitting. Plus they are actually pretty easy once you get the hang of it. After the first few rows I was getting into the rhythm of it and loved how it was working up.
Tunisian crochet produced a thick fabric and since I was using a bulky yarn too it did take it’s toll on my hands. I recommend taking breaks after a few rows to give your hand muscles a break. You can also go up a few hook sizes if you’d like a thinner blanket.
Tunisian crochet also requires a special hook. I went with an interchangeable hook that fit onto my lantern moon cords. The hook I used was from Knitter’s Pride, but there are a lot of options to choose from. I’d say if you think you’ll be doing a lot of Tunisian crochet in the future that you might want to consider getting an interchangeable set so you don’t have to buy a new hook for each project.
For the Quince you’ll need a 10mm hook and at least a 40” cord.
Before we dive into the Quincey Throw pattern let’s go over the stitches we’ll be using. My hope is that with just this photo tutorial and video tutorial you’ll be able to create a Quincey Throw even if you’ve never done Tunisian crochet before.
Tunisian Purl Stitch (Tps)
Bring yarn to the front, insert hook from right to left through next vertical bar, bring yarn to back, yo and draw up a loop.
Tunisian Knit Stitch (Tks)
Insert hook behind and through to the back of the next vertical bar, yo and draw up a loop.
Last Stitch (Lts)
Insert hook under last two vertical bars in row, yo and draw up a loop.
Tunisian Simple Stitch (Tss) with Bind Off (BO)
Insert hook from right to left behind the next vertical bar, yo and draw up a loop, draw that same loop through current loop on hook.
