The number one request I get since releasing the Parker Throw back in 2022 is…
“How can I make it smaller? Like baby blanket size?”
I added a baby version to my “list to make” years ago and it’s finally time to share it with you. Sometimes you just have to wait for the perfect time. My sister just had a new baby and so I was determined to make her a cozy baby blanket and knew the Parker was the perfect pattern.
I managed to get it done just in time for my trip to see her. Being able to snuggle up with her and her new Parker Throw was the graetest feeling in the world. I snapped a few photos of her with her new blanket too. 🥰
What’s Changed?
There is one change in the mini Parker vs the original. After using the original for several years and having it go through the wash a few times, I decided I needed to go down a couple needle sizes for the mini version. The stitches stretched out and made the blanket a bit thinner than I intended. By using a smaller needle the stitches will be more condensed and since I fully expect a baby blanket will get washed way more, I wanted to make sure it would hold up over time.
The Yarn
I used the same yarn for the mini that I did for the original. Lion Brand’s Pound of Love is perfect for handmade blankets. Since it is machine washable and dryable it’s ideal for items that will be used a lot and need to be washed.
Here’s the sad news about the yarn though. The color I used is called Barley and it’s been discontinued. 😔 Luckily Pound of Love comes in so many beautiful colors I’m sure you can find one you’ll love. Some of my favorites are Olive, Pink Salt, Elephant Grey and Sugar Cookie.
Skill Level
This blanket is great for beginners. All you need to know if purl stitch and knit stitch. It’s also great for intermediate to advanced knitters who just want a mindless project to keep their hands busy. If you’ve never tried waffle stitch in knitting before you can check out the video tutorial I made for the original Parker Throw below.
