I was lucky enough to get a first look at the new Skein Tones Yarn from Lion Brand when it released this March and knew it would make the perfect retro throw blanket. What is it about chevron and these colors that get me all nostalgic?
When I was little we had this super thick chevron crochet blanket that we kept in our living room. It wasn’t pretty colors though. It was made with a variegated yarn with creams, browns and reds, but it was so comfy and snuggly and was often used when my sisters and I would build blanket forts. It was the inspiration behind the Merrick Blanket and definitely brought back some fond memories as I made it.
I love the whole skein tones palette. The colors were designed to compliment a wide range of skin tones and the anti-pilling basic stitch base is perfect for all sorts of accessories and garments. I picked out three of my favorites to create the Merrick. The colors were inspired by a super cute sweater I saw on Pinterest. (I may need to get some more to make that sweater too ;)
The wide chevron stitch uses an easy one row repeat and the whole thing is worked in the front loop only. It’s the perfect size for getting cozy with the family for movie nights and the anti-pilling yarn means this baby will be around for generations to enjoy.
I’m so excited to be bringing you this pattern today and can’t wait to see all your Merricks!
