We are officially on Summer Break and headed to the midwest to visit family and dang is it HOT here! We will be hitting up the pool as much as possible during our time here so it’s a good thing I packed my Kait and Cali cover ups.
I knew when I first designed the Cali knit cover up that she would need a crochet cousin. I had really wanted to try to create as close to identical designs as possible, but when I sat down to start swatching I quickly realized that sometimes it is near impossible to make crochet and knit stitches look similar. So instead of fighting it I decided to make Kait stand a bit more on her own. I found this stunning lacey flower stitch and knew it would be a perfect crochet replacement for the original knit v stitches. I kept some of the same features such as the double eyelets and long horizonal lines sections. Seeing them side by side they are both gorgeous cousins instead of the original sister designs I had imagined, but I love them both just the same.
As with the Cali, The Kait Cover Up is constructed of two long panels and then seamed together in the front and back centers and along the sides leaving space for the arm holes and slits. The biggest difference is that the Kait is made side to side so you’ll me working extra long rows. I’ve included a full video tutorial since the flowers can be a bit intimidating at first glance. You can check it out on YouTube below.
If you’re looking for some amazing swimsuits to rock under your Kait Cover Up check out these two I got from Amazon. They come in so many sizes and some really beautiful prints.

Block panels using your preferred method.
Seaming:
Lay panels RS up next to each other so the beginning Rows are both in the center. Starting from the top of the panels, seam together using your preferred method until approx. 28 inches have been seamed for the back.
Then starting at the bottom of the panels, seam together using your preferred method until approx. 20 inches have been seamed for the front. See diagram below.
Adjust the length seamed on the front and back to suit your preferred fit.
Fold cover-up in half so wrong sides are together and bottom edges are lined up.
Then mark your sides with a stitch marker 10 inches up from the bottom edge and 9(10, 11) inches from the fold. Seam using your preferred method in between the stitch markers. See diagram below.
To finish the cover up work a single crochet row evenly across the bottom edges of the front and back. With RS facing up attach yarn to the right side and then single crochet across the front. Repeat on the back panel. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
Block again if needed and Enjoy!
