Today is the day my friends! The Delmar Tote is finally here. I’ve been working on this pattern for a few months now and have had to keep it a secret for way too long. You’re gonna love this large tote bag. It’s perfect for all those trips to the beach this summer!
THE INSPIRATION
When I first saw this Berroco Regatta tape yarn I instantly fell in love. It has the most amazing look to it and the colors are the perfect neutrals that just make my heart sing. I am so grateful to Lovecrochet.com for providing the yarn for this project. They sent me six balls of Berroco Regatta in Maritime to make this bag idea of mine come to life!
I originally had wanted to make a flat bottomed bag, but once I started working with the tape yarn I knew that it needed to be a more simple design so the texture of the yarn could really pop. This simple tote bag works up quickly so you’ll be carrying it the beach in no time.
The name Delmar means “of the sea” which fits perfectly with this tote. The round shape and long, sturdy straps make it perfect for holding all the beach essentials.
THE STRAPS
I love when I am able to mix two mediums together and I knew right away that leather straps were a must for this bag. It can be a bit intimidating to work with leather, especially hand sewn leather, but I’ve tried to make it as easy as possible by including step by step photo instructions in the pattern. I’ve also included instructions for how to create crochet straps instead. You can use the same yarn as the bag or switch it up with a neutral color to get the same look as the leather.
I’ve also included a few pre-made strap options as well like these snap on straps from BeamCity. These are perfect for adding to any knit or crochet bag. You can also purchase pre-holed leather straps just like the ones I used, in my shop for a limited time.
