The Ansley Tee-Free Knitting Pattern

The Ansley Tee-Free Knitting Pattern

The Ansley is a slightly oversized, boxy tee that is perfect for the transition from Spring to Summer. The use of two different stitches makes this tee fun to work up and creates an eye-catching design. Inclusive sizing and a flattering v-neck makes The Ansley for everyone! Find the free pattern below, grab a digital PDF in my shop or the complete kit from Lion Brand Yarn.

I am thrilled to be a part of this year’s Summer Must Haves collection from Lion Brand Yarn. Every year designers from all over come together to bring you a beautiful array of designs that are perfect for warm weather. There’s something for everyone from home decor, to accessories and garments offered in a mix of crochet and knit. Check out the whole Summer Must Haves collection today!

I love a classic tee during the Summer months and knew that the LB Collection Cotton Bamboo would be perfect for creating that timeless look. To add a bit of flair I decided to use two different stitches which pair nicely together. Half the tee is made in stockinette and the other in a modified seed stitch. Switching between each stitch keeps the project interesting and creates a classic look with a modern twist.

The Ansley is made from the bottom up in two panels with plenty of positive ease. This gives the top amazing drape and flatters all figures. It is finished off with extra long ribbed sleeves and a mitered v-neckline which is way easier to create than it looks. It is such a fun project to work on so you’ll be sporting your new Ansley Tee in no time.

Seaming

Block the front and back panel using your preferred method. You will need to pull the left side of the tee a bit more than the right in order to get an even length.

After blocking, lay front and back panels RS up with shoulders touching. Seam the shoulders together using your preferred method of seaming.

Then, fold the front and back panels so the WS are touching and the sides and bottom are aligned. Seam the sides leaving 7(7.25, 7.5, 8, 8.25, 9, 9.25, 10, 10.25) inches unworked to the shoulder for the armholes.

Sleeves

Sleeves are worked by picking up stitches evenly around the armhole and working a 2X2 ribbing.

Attach yarn to underarm seam and pick 74(76, 80, 84, 88, 96, 98, 106, 108)

Rounds 1-18: *K2, P2, repeat from * around. 74(76, 80, 84, 88, 96, 98, 106, 108)

BO using your preferred method. I used a tubular BO which you can find a video tutorial for below. Choose whichever method you think looks best.

Repeat on other armhole for 2nd sleeve.

Neckline:

Neckline is made by picking up stitches along neck opening and working in rounds while creating a mitered v in the center of the neckline.

Starting at the left shoulder seam, pick up stitches evenly all the way around the neckline. Make sure that you have a multiple of 4 stitches from the left shoulder to the center of the v. Pick up a stitch in the center of the v and place a locking stitch marker there. Then you will need to pick up a multiple of 4 plus 2 from that center stitch, around to your first picked up stitch. This will ensure that you have the correct amount of stitches on either side of the center stitch in order to create the mitered v neck. Starting with Round 2 you will be working a double decrease each round using the center stitch and the stitches on either side of the center stitch. Make sure to keep working in the 2X2 rib pattern for all other stitches in the round.

Round 1: *K2, P2, repeat from * until center stitch, K center stitch, P2, **K2, P2, repeat from ** around.

Round 2: *K2, P2, repeat from * until one stitch before center stitch, sl 2 knitwise, K1, then pull both slipped stitches over the stitch that was just K, P1, **K2, P2, repeat from ** around.

Round 3: work in 2X2 rib until one stitch before center stitch, sl 2 knitwise, K1, then pull both slipped stitches over the stitch that was just knit, continue in 2X2 rib around.

Round 4-6: repeat Round 3

BO all stitches using your preferred method.

Weave in all ends and block if needed
