My Monthly Make- The Glacier Beanie
Can you believe that it's the last day of January already? We are one month into 2018 and it already seems like time is flying. One of my goals for the year was to make more things for myself. I have a long list of things I want to make and this year is the year I start crossing things off that list. Every month I'll be choosing a project from one of my favorite makers to share here on the blog.
For January I chose The Glacier Beanie by Melissa from Woods and Wool. I have been wanting to make a ribbed beanie for a while and when I saw The Glacier Beanie it was exactly what I wanted. There are a lot of ribbed hat patterns out there, but Melissa's has an almost knit look to it that I just love.
While in Ohio I had purchased a few skeins of marled yarn from Hobby Lobby and knew it would be perfect for a ribbed hat. I used I Love This Yarn in Black Gradient for the first one. I've always been a little reluctant to use marled yarn because of all the color changes, but this one is perfect. It subtly changes from greys to blacks and when worked in the stitches used for the Glacier Beanie it looks amazing.
It took me a while to get the hang of the stitch used, but once I was used to it, it became a bit addicting. My first one ended up a bit shorter than it should have been so it doesn't have that bit of slouch to it like Melissa's does. I'll have to play around with my tension next time to get it a bit longer. I actually tried it on Emerson and the height is perfect for her, it's just a bit too big around. She still looks adorable in it though!
I loved the look of The Glacier Beanie so much that I knew I had to try it with a fold over brim. I made it extra long so I could wear the brim folded at different heights to create multiple looks.
This yarn is another amazing yarn from Hobby Lobby called Denim in Color in black. I will definitely be getting more of this in all their colorways because it's super soft and I love the look of it once worked up into a hat.
While The Glacier Beanie is beautiful on it's own, it also looks amazing with a giant fur pom on top too.
