Do you ever come across a new stitch and immediately fall in love with it? That’s exactly what I did when I found the mini waffle stitch. I had been wanting to try the regular waffle stitch, but when using it for my Wavel Pumpkin pattern, it was a bit too large with the DK weight yarn. So of course I tried it out with half double crochets instead of double crochets and it was perfection! Today I am so excited to bring you a photo and video tutorial of how to create the mini waffle stitch in the round.
For this tutorial I used Lion Brand Basic Stitch Anti-Pilling in charcoal heather and a Boye crochet hook size H(5.00mm). You can use any yarn and hook size you’d like to create your mini waffle stitch. Scroll down for the photo tutorial or check out the video below.
Start by making a slip knot on your hook. Then chain a multiple of 3. Making sure not to twist the ch, sl st to the first ch to join.
Round 1: ch 2 (counts as first st), hdc in each ch around, sl st to the top of the ch 2 to join.
Round 2: ch 2 (counts as first st), hdc in next st, fphdc around next st, * hdc 2, fphdc, repeat from * around, sl st to top of ch 2 to join.
Round 3: ch 2 (counts as first st), bphdc around first st, hdc in next, * bphdc 2, hdc, repeat from * around, sl st to top of ch 2 to join.
Repeat Rounds 2 & 3 to create your mini waffle stitch.
I hope you enjoyed this stitch tutorial! If you want to use the mini waffle stitch right now check out my Wavel Pumpkin free crochet pattern. You can also find an ad-free PDF of this pattern in my shop.
Happy Waffling!
