Week One-Back Panel

This week we will be getting familiar with the stitches and yarn by working up our back panels. You’ll start with the bottom ribbing using Basic Stitch Anti-Pilling and then head into the main body of the back panel with the Chenille Appeal. The back panel is worked using just basic stitches so you can get cozy on the couch with your favorite movie or tv show and crochet away.

I’ll also be giving away two $10 Starbucks gift cards this week. If you’re on the email list you’re automatically entered to win. To get more entries head over to Instagram and share you’re progress using #blakeandbeaconmakealong and make sure to tag @meghanmakesdo so I can see. Winner will be picked Saturday Jan 20th.

I’ve included a video tutorial so you get the overall idea of the construction of the back panels (and front panels). Check it out below.

Back Panel: make one

Row 1: sc BLO in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 1, turn. (11)

Week Two- Front Panels

This week we will be working up the front panels of our bomber. They are made just like the back panel and seem to work up faster too.

Also, this week’s giveaway is an ultra cute wooden row counter handmade by Summer from Sunrise Grove. It’s the perfect accessory for keeping track of rows while you work. Plus it’s got adorable little mushrooms on it! Head over to Instagram and make sure to give Summer a follow. For an extra entry make sure to post your progress on Instagram using #blakeandbeaconmakealong and tag @meghanmakesdo. Winner will be picked on Sunday 1/27.

Week Four- Seaming and Pockets

We are almost there friends! This is the week where we finally get to assemble and try on our new bombers. It’s such a great feeling when you can see all your hard work come together. This week we will be seaming our bombers and making and attaching the pockets. The video tutorial is coming soon on YouTube. I’ll go over the basics of seaming and show you a more detailed view of how to make and attach the pockets.

This week you can also enter for a chance to win your favorite Meghan Makes Do Lion Brand kit! I’ll pick two winners on Sunday 2/11. Make sure you’re on the email list and that you post your progress on Instagram using #blakeandbeaconmakealong and tag me @meghanmakesdo and @lionbrandyarn. Each post counts as an entry.

Seaming:

Lay Back Panel and two Front Panels together at the shoulders with RS facing each other. Using your preferred seaming method attach front panels to back panel starting from the outside edges and working in towards the center for 5.5”(6.5”, 7.5”, 8.5”, 9”, 10”, 11”, 11.5”, 12.5”) on each shoulder.  There will be 8-10” unseamed in the center of the back panel.

Attach the sleeves to the sides of the cardigan, using your preferred seaming method, making sure to align the center of the sleeve with the shoulder seam. Make sure the sleeves are attached evenly from the center shoulder seam, down the sides. Using stitch markers to hold the sleeve in place is recommended.

Fold cardigan so that the back and front panels are on top of each other. Then seam the sleeves from the underarm to the cuff. Seam the sides from the underarm down to the bottom.

Left Side Pocket:

With 4mm hook and Color A, ch 25(25, 27, 27, 27, 31, 31, 35, 35)

Row 2: esc in each st across, ch 1, turn. (24(24, 26, 26, 26, 30, 30, 34, 34)

Repeat Row 2 for a total of 12(12, 13, 13, 13, 15, 15, 17, 17) rows.

Repeat Rows 1-2  6(6, 7, 7, 7, 8, 8, 9, 9) more times. (10, 10, 10, 10, 10, 12, 12, 14, 14)

Repeat Row 1 once more. (9(9)

Using pins or clips, fold ribbing down and stretch to line up with the sides and top of the pocket.

With the long tail of Color B and a tapestry needle, sew the edge of the ribbing down and attach to the front of the pocket.

Next, lay the pocket down onto the front panel of the jacket lining up the bottom of the pocket with the top of the ribbing of the front panel and the long edge of the pocket with the front edge of the panel. Pin and clip in place.
