My Favorite Yarn
Happy National I Love Yarn Day!!
You guys, I didn't even know this was a thing, but I'm so glad I know now. If you haven't guessed, I LOVE YARN!! Seriously yarns in pretty colors displayed in a beautiful way makes me get all heart eyed. If you crochet or knit I'm sure you know what I mean.
In honor of I Love Yarn day I wanted to share with you a quick post about some of my favorite yarns and what I use them for. If you are new to crochet I hope you find this helpful in knowing what yarns to select for your projects. (Also, this is not a sponsored post I just really love using these yarns and would promote these brands anyday!)
Lion Brand Vanna's Choice: This was my first love. I started crocheting with this yarn while in college and I still love using it. It is a worsted weight yarn (4) and comes in so many beautiful colors. This is a great yarn for almost every project. I use it for hats, scarves, blankets, amigurumi, slippers and so much more. If you are looking for a basic yarn to start learning to crochet I would highly recommend this one.
Lion Brand Heartland: This yarn is so soft and incredibly beautiful. All the colors are heathered which gives your projects a unique look. It is another worsted or medium weight (4) yarn, but to me it seems a bit lighter and thinner than Vanna's Choice. I love making slouchy hats, baby items and scarves with this yarn.
Caron Simply Soft: The name of this yarn says it all. It is soft! This yarn is similar to the Heartland yarn in that it is a medium weight, but seems lighter. It is super soft and you get a lot in one skein which I love. I use this yarn mostly for making my favorite infinity scarves and I use two strands together to create a thicker scarf. It is also great for baby items, hats, and light blankets.
I Love This Cotton!: This is my go to cotton yarn. Unfortunately it is only sold at Hobby Lobby and the closest one to me is over an hour away! Now anytime I'm there I make sure to stock up on all my favorite colors. This is a great yarn for making dishcloths, hats or even amigurumi.
Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick: This is my favorite chunky yarn. It is a super bulky weight (6) yarn and comes in gorgeous colors. I use this yarn for baskets, chunky cowls, kids hooded cowls and thick blankets. You can also use it for making thick hats and mittens.
Bernat Softee Chunky: This is my second favorite super bulky weight yarn. It is 100% acrylic so is great for people who want a chunky yarn without wool. I use this for baskets, blankets, hats and scarves.
Loops & Threads Snuggly Wuggly: Right now this is my go to baby yarn. It comes in more than just the basic pastel baby colors and is soft and durable. It is great for making baby items, blankets and sweaters. I recently used it to create my first sweater ever and it worked up nicely.
So there you have it. Those are the brands and weights of yarns I use the most. I'm always on the look out for new yarns to try and now there are so many unique stores online too. Let me know what your favorite yarns are and if you think there is one I need to try.
Time to go celebrate I Love Yarn Day with a little crochet. Our public library is collecting crochet and knit rectangles to be used to create blankets for people in need. I'm hoping to use up some of my yarn stash to make some. Learn more about National I Love Yarn Day and how you can Stitch it Forward at Craftyarncouncil.com
