Last year I learned how to create amazing blankets using a graph and the Corner To Corner method. It opened up a whole new world of ideas for me. I loved learning how to use this method for crochet and I’m so excited to be sharing a brand new way to do it. Scroll down for the free tutorial on how to do Mini Corner To Corner.

Mini Corner To Corner is a lot like regular Corner To Corner. You will still be creating squares or tiles. You will still work your pattern on the diagonal and the basic increasing and decreasing method is the same. The biggest difference is that you will be using half double crochets instead of double crochets. This creates smaller squares and uses a bit less yarn.

If you’ve never used this method before it may be helpful to first check out my original tutorial on How To Corner To Corner Crochet. I go over the basics including how to read a graph which is typical for c2c patterns.

For this tutorial I used Mary Maxim Starlette yarn in medium grey and a size I (5.5mm) crochet hook. You can use any weight yarn and hook for this method, but I find worsted weight looks the best.

To start you will chain 5, then work a hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook and in the next two chains.

This is your first square and your first row. Now ch 5 and work a hdc in the 3rd ch from the hook and in the next 2 chs. This will be how you increase from here on out.

Now flip the first square up and sl st into the ch 2 space to join. You’ve just created the first square of the second row. Now ch 2 and work 3 hdc into the ch 2 sp you just slip stitched into.

Continue to increase (ch 5, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and next 2 chs) at the beginning of every row until you’ve reached your second corner in your pattern. Now you will need to decrease which is just how you would decrease in regular c2c. After completing the last square in your current row, turn your work and sl st across the 3 hdc in your last square. You can also sl st into the ch 2 sp, but I found that the edge looks neater if you don’t.

Rotate your work, ch 2 and work 3 hdc into the ch 2 sp of the previous square. Sl st into the ch 2 sp of the next square and repeat until you’ve completed the required amount of squares in your pattern.

Isn’t mini c2c so much fun! It’s a great way to create beautiful c2c pieces, but on a smaller scale. If you’re looking to create a c2c piece make sure you check out all of my Holiday Graphgan patterns. You can use traditional c2c or the mini c2c. Just note that if you use the mini method your finished piece will be smaller than the original.

Happy Crocheting!
