One of my favorite things about crochet is how many amazing stitches there are! Today I’m going to show you how to do the Herringbone Double Crochet (hbdc) stitch. This is a beautiful and reversible stitch that will give your project a tone of texture. Find the photo and video tutorial below.
For this tutorial I used the following materials:
We Are Knitters The Cotton in Khaki
Stitch Markers
Feel free to use any yarn and appropriate hook you have on hand. Experiment with different weights and materials to see how to make this stitch really pop!
Abbreviations:
ch(s)- chain(s)
st(s)- stitch(es)
yo- yarn over
hbdc- herringbone double crochet
When working the herringbone double crochet stitch you can start with any number of chains. Just remember that the last three chains on your hook will count as the first stitch. So you will need to chain the desired number of stitches plus two.
Then to start your first row you will work into the fourth chain from the hook and beginning making the herringbone double crochet stitch as shown below.
Herringbone Double Crochet (hbdc): yo, insert hook in st, yo and draw up a loop. Draw that loop through the first loop on the hook, then yo and draw through one, yo and draw through two remaining loops.
For the second row and after you will ch 3 (counts as first st) and continue working the herringbone st across the row. Don’t forget to work your last st into the top of the ch 3 from the previous row.
