Spring is here and it’s got me in the mood to clean and organize my whole house! One thing I love to use for storage is baskets. Today I’m going to share a simple crochet basket with handles that is perfect for holding toys, sewing supplies or yarn!
***This pattern is also available as an ad-free downloadable PDF in my shop, Etsy or Ravelry. The pattern is 6 full color pages and includes the full written pattern, photo tutorials and the “create” graph for adding cross stitch to the front.

I love when I can create some cute storage using materials I already have on hand. That’s a win-win in my book. For these simple baskets I used some extra skeins of bulky and super bulky yarn I had on hand. The bulky weight basket is a bit more flexible than the super bulky, but the pattern works great for both. Feel free to use any yarn you’d like, just remember you might have to change the hook size to get the desired size you’d like.
Here’s what you’ll need:
MATERIALS
approximately 200 yards of bulky or 315 yards of super bulky yarn (I used Red Heart Soft Essentials for the off white basket, Bernat Softee Chunky for the white, grey and black basket
and Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick for the oatmeal, mustard and charcoal basket)
crochet hook size H (5.00mm) or size needed to obtain gauge
tapestry needle and scissors
SIZE & GAUGE:
Rounds 1-9= 4” diameter circle (bulky) or 5.5” diameter circle (super bulky)
Finished basket measures approximately 10” wide and 6” high (bulky) or 11.5” wide and 8” high (super bulky)
NOTES:
Bottom of basket is worked in continuous rounds. Use a stitch marker to keep track of rounds.
The main body of the basket is made by joining rounds. Slip stitch into the top of the first st of each round.
Basket can be worked in color blocks as indicated in the pattern or as one solid color.
PATTERN:
With Color A make a magic loop.
Round 1: ch 1, sc 6 into magic loop, pull tight. (6)

I hope you all enjoyed this free simple basket pattern. This pattern was created as a part of my Instagram take over on the Craft Yarn Council page. The original design included cross stitching the word “create” onto the completed basket. I’ve created a fun little tutorial to show you how to add any cross stitch pattern or graph to your own basket. You can check it out here! Or if you prefer a PDF version you can find it in my shop, Etsy or Ravelry.
I’d love to see your finished baskets! Make sure to use #meghanmakesdo or #theaggiebasket and tag me @meghanmakesdo on social media so I can see.
Happy Crocheting,
